Bird Watching

Sri Lanka offers the avid bird watcher or ornithologist the opportunity to observe a myriad of different species of birds and water fowl.

The country offers a variety of forests and bird sanctuaries, such as the Salgala forest, Meethirigala forest reserve, Labugama Kalatuwawa forest reserve, Ingiriya/Bodinagala forest reserve (Dombagaskanda), Sinharaja rain forest and other reserves to visit. Where species such as the Scaly Thrush (Zoothera dauma) the Sri Lanka White-eye (Zosterops ceylonensis), the Wood Pigeon (Columba torrigtoni), the Yellow-eared Bulbul (Pycnonotus penicillatus), the Dusky Blue Flycatcher (Muscicapa Sordid), Layards Parakeet (Psittacula Calthrapae), Jungle fowl (Gallus Lafayettii), the yellow eared Bulbul (Pycnonotus Penicillatus) and a great many more other species have been sighted.
